BIO:

Mariano Gabriel Vidal has over 24 years of professional experience in the Animation field. His areas of expertise include Animation and Art Direction, Traditional Character Animation, Character Designing, Visual Development, Concept and Inspirational Art, Storyboarding and Illustration.  Over the last few years he’s been mostly working as a Lead Character Designer and as an Animation and Art Director for several studios and production companies, both in Latin America and in the US.
In addition to being a highly skilled animation artist Vidal is also a licensed Architect with a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from Universidad de Belgrano (College of Architecture and Urbanism - CABA, Argentina).

RICE AND MATCHSTICKS (www.viddsee.com/video/rice-and-matchsticks) is an Argentine animated short film officially selected in more than 80 film festivals worldwide. It was produced by Matchsticks Animation Studios (CABA, Argentina) and the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA, Buenos Aires, Argentina) with the financial support of Dell, Adobe, AMD and Avianca, among other companies. The short obtained several prizes and recognitions, including the 1st Prize for Best Animated Short Film at the ‘Festival Internacional del Cortometraje’ (Argentina) and the 3rd Prize for Best Animation Short both at the ‘Athens Animfest International Animation Festival’ (Greece) and ‘The Indie Gathering International Film Festival’ (USA):

Lead Supervising Animator for the multi-awarded independent animated feature film, ‘Mercano, El Marciano’ produced by Fundación Universidad del Cine with the support of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA, Buenos Aires, Argentina). The film was widely acclaimed and won several awards including the ‘Jury Special Mention Award’ at Festival du Film d’Animation ANNECY 2002’, as well as several other special mention awards at the Berlin, Brussels, San Diego, Toulouse, La Bourboule, Hong Kong and New York Festivals, among others.

In 1996 he was hired as an Assistant Animator for the Argentine TV live action/animation series, ‘Mi Familia es un Dibujo’ which was produced by Patagonik Film Group, TELEFE Argentina and distributed by BUENA VISTA INTERNATIONAL. Due to the show’s large success a second season was decided and arranged as so was the full production of its first animated feature version, ‘Dibu, The Animated Feature’. By then he was already working as a Junior Animator in both projects. In the year 1998 he was promoted to Senior Animator, working as such on the second animated feature ‘Dibu 2’ and on the third season for the TV show ‘Mi Familia es un Dibujo’. A year later, he was working as a Lead Senior Animator for ‘Los Pintín’, an original animated series for TV produced by Patagonik Film Group, ARTEAR (Canal 13) and POL-KA Producciones S.A.:
